Average Gooner Talks#12 With the discourse about Nolan's The Odyssey being how it isn't faithful to the original epic made me realize something. Even if the adaption of a media is completely and objectively inaccurate, it doesn't matter in the end if the adaption is still good and successful. Despite people saying its inaccurate, a lot of reviews say its a fun watch. So does accuracy really matter in the end if the adaption is good even if it isn't a linear telling of the original source material?

I wouldn’t say it doesn’t matter. It matters the same as the quality of writing. Something can be written terribly, and some people will still like it. It’s more just if the good traits can outweigh the bad parts that can make anything good, or bad, respectively. Anything can be either. So, No. it doesn’t matter. In the same way that the visual fidelity, scriptwriting, or many other attributes don’t necessarily matter if there are positives to outweigh its weaknesses.

like with most things, there’s nuance.

I honestly didn't care too much for the odyssey I think some things were handled very well such as the homecoming and seeking wisdom from the dead but beyond a few highlights I found myself wanting they breeze past scylla and charybdis faster than I would have liked agamemnon looked ridiculous and I find it odd that they touch on how clever Odysseus was and chose not to include him outsmarting polyphemus I will fully admit that I have a particular bias against the film because I developed hyperacusis shortly after seeing it on an unrelated note I realized that I've only ever commented on posts of radroachhd
