    Okay, but why does an ancient Japanese fox-spirit have a thick, stereotipical texan cowgirl accent?

      The Japanese language has a very similar thing to a "rural/southern" accent, right down to the "bumpkin" stereotypes. So, every time you see a Japanese character with a southern accent in English, they're basically translating the accent from the Japanese into the closest thing we English speakers have.
